Yale Graduation - 2008

Clear Sky over Harkness Tower - May 26, 2008Today the blue skies of New Haven were exceptionally clear as I viewed Harkness Tower from my ceremonial seat during the 307th Commencent at Yale University. The sun was hot but a cool breeze refreshingly swept through the Old Campus Courtyard most of the morning.

CLICK HERE for the sound of YESTERDAYAmong the highlights of the outdoor ceremony was a most notable face in the crowd.

The Magical Mystery Tour of life brought none other then Sir Paul McCartney to the Yale Commons to receive an Honorary Doctor of Music Degree.

The best things in life may be free but a certain satisfaction comes from hard work and reaching a challenging goal. The real acheviement of the day came inside the walls of Woolsey Hall when our daughter in law, Nadya Maria Morales-Cummings, received her "earned" Doctor of Philosophy.

Dan and Sandra I know that you are proud of Nadya as you well should be, and I hope that she gets a chance to see this blog that you have written to let everyone know of her accomplishment.

A PHD in the family - very impressive! My dad is one of the most renowned academic phychologists in the US...published in 60 countries. On the other hand my daughter, somewhat like your daughter-in-law, will be heading off to college next year. Yale is so difficult to get into - Jordan, my daughter, is looking at Duke and UNC. We'll see. Congrats to your daughter in law that is quite the accomplishment!

So, how did the run go in San Diego? Was it hot? San Diego is always hot? I just got my official rejection letter from the lottery of the NY Marathon. I had to start all over because they forgot to roll me over last year. I think I'm going to have to pull some strings or something. I already have a hotel reservation and a plane ticket!

Tracy.... San Diego went fine for my first Marathon. Heat wasn't bad but did get some leg cramping and right foot blister that slowed me down.  I should get a chance to write about the experiene this weekend but in the meantime here are some photos taken by various cameras set up along the route.....

I just checked the lottery results and I didn't get into NYC either. Noticed they have an option to raise money for charity to get a race entry but you would need to gaurantee $2500 would be raised or personally contributed.

Renee....  Funny,  I do a double take everytime Jon posts something also.... Then my mind drifts and I think his lovely wife Sara would make a fine follower.  :-)
