Hidden Gems in the Rain: Barbara Hershey

Before I get whipped by the disappearing dominatrix that was recently reeled back into the Rain and tagged me I decided to buckle down and make my Hidden Gem selection.

Since I've been here about a year I don't know many hidden people, my subscribed list includes plenty of posters that consumes my reading time and the dashboard goes by so fast that I miss quite a bit.  One sweet little blogger that caught my eye with her FIRST POST was Barbara Hershey.

Since I have a special interest in Maine I instantly subscribed to her blog and have watched her develop.  Maine is known as Vacationland and for me it was the only vacation I ever saw during childhood.  Most of my relatives are still living in the small town we used to visit for two weeks every summer and sporadically throughout the year.

Barbara has settled down along the mid coast of Maine where the ocean water etched in my memory feels bone chillingly cold all summer long.  Most of my time in Maine is spent near interior lakes but I did get the the coast a few times last year. Reading Barbara's Blog is giving me the inside scoop on some adventures I'll be taking during the upcoming summer months.

Most of her writing is geared towards Localism and offers advice on where to stay, good places to eat & activities to enjoy.  Anyone considering a Maine Vacation will find her blog is a great resource.

Beyond vacationing her posts contain plenty of information for Real Estate Buyers and Sellers.  Her series on government benefits for military personnel affected by base closings is great for sellers. She also has step by step instructions for first time buyers looking to purchase a home in Maine.

Now that I have outed a gem the second phase of my task calls for passing the torch... Of course in my warped mind that torch instantly reminds me of fire, which is hot and causes me to think of hell.  To get to hell you need to die which reminds me of an old Jewish guy that retired about 10 years ago.... Someone asked Eliot if he'd be moving to Florida, his response was hell will come soon enough, I'm not going to Florida for practice... All this leads me to the realization that I should try to revive a few "dead rainers" from Florida!

My two long lost Florida Tags are Susie Roscoe & Tom Weiss

Dan - Now that's a gem I hadn't heard of.  I will have to check out Barbara's stuff.  Weiss hasn't been around Active-Rain for awhile, hopefully tagging him will bring him back.

Dan- What a gem you found! Well, hopefully picking Tom will work, look how well it worked on bringing our little Lisa back.

Hey Dan!

I recognize Barbara's name, and will have to go check out her posts here.  I still have to do my hidden gem post.  Problem is that I haven't had much time to go exploring off my subscribed lists lately.

More snow tomorrow into Saturday....ugh!

Jason... Never really understood why Tom faded away....  Heard from Susie a few times but she hasn't posted in ages...

Sandra... Barb did tell me where to go for a non-touristy beach and a few spots to eat... We'll get to it this summer.

Suzanne...  Don't hold your breath waiting for them..... Most times when people turn off the Rain they never really find the click again.

Linda... Maine's a long ways from home for you... Kind of like Texas for me, see it on the map but never been there...

Ann... I know what you mean as far as not straying far from the subscribed list.  Lucky your on the coast, got this picture from Greene, Maine in today's email.

George... We'll see.. Think he stopped by during the holidays for a a few comments but he never did post what he's been doing...

Elaine... We haven't had much snow in Connecticut this season...  Last year I typically ran on quiet streets that were plowed with little traffic.

Dan... even a pretty gem...  ;o)   Okay, so it's my single hormones .... lol  Seriously, she sounds like a good read. In regards to Tom Weiss, I haven't seen him in many months and last talked to him back then, just to see how he has been. He has been working on a few other things.... thanks for sharing this, but as you mentioned, just so many people to read and such a short time to read them all.

Nice job Dan - now heading out to your Gem

Marc... Wasn't sure how she'd like being singled out.... Mainer's like their quiet existence without the intrusion of flatlanders....

Mana... Thought Tom was around during he holidays and occationally I draw Susie in on a Tee'd Off Tuesday but I'll have to admit I been lax coming up with funny complaints....

Kim.... Not sure when a newbie becomes and old timer but Barb's getting there.....

Jeff... Careful.... Her husband might enjoy laying some military wup-ass on a big guy like you.... LOL    On a serious note your single hormones have not skewed your view.... She looks good.

Thesa... You'll probablly find a better place to get a mail-order lobster from Barb... She even does some lobstering herself so if I'm lucky I might get some up-close photos come summertime.

Damo...  Nice gem...  I look forward to checking out her stuff...  Hope she has some summer adventures to tempt me...  Cold enough right here, thank you very much...my southern blood has never acclimated...

Now...on to more pressing matters...  Disappearing Dominatrix???  That bone-chilling cold is the fear of what I'm going to do to you when I get my hands on you...  Better start running...

Lisa... Is that a new nickname you have intensionally coined for me?  Usually you call me Dano for some unknown reason... Must be a typo.....  LOL

Dan,

Thanks for pointing to Barbara Hershey.  Sometimes active rain can be a little overwhelming!  I'll definitely be checking her out!

Dan - I just wanted to thank you for dragging me into the spotlight!  No..seriously...thank you!  I appreciate your kind words, and I've been able to meet so many great people because of it! I'll try to live up to your expectations.  In the meantime...I've got a lobster with your name on it!  ;)

D.Bass... I do recall being new around this time last year when ActiveRain was much smaller and there was an overwhelming abundance of information....

Jeff... Just screwing with you... I know your complement was not in any way confrontational...

Barbara... Not sure how much light I'm able to spread... Seems I've scared a few readers off with my recent posts...

Well...you can't scare me away.  I'm addicted!  I LOVED your poem, by the way.  That was a classic! I laughed all day over that.  Could be I'm easily amused...lol

Lisa... Figured you didn't let your fingers slip....

Barb... Every so often I like toss in some rhymes.... Here's an Oldie

Dear Dan...it's been so incredibly HOT DOWN HERE I melted my keyboard and am still waiting on a new one.  FED-X and UPS don't deliver here often!!

**I'm alive...and will work on my homework assignment.  Coincidentally, we've been playing IN THE RAIN while you've been playing in the SNOW!!  Is that the hellish part I'm supposed to talk about?  LOL

You're creative and I'm about ready to re-commit to AR as well as my own blog.  I've got "real mail" for Suzanne coming if she reads this.  Sounds like we all need eachother!!

PS...I may even blog about a "BLOGGING DREAM" I had last night! Kind-a-scary!!

HAPPY MONDAY to the Connecticut FIREMAN!!

Posted by Susie Roscoe, Real Estate Specialist | Brandon, FL (Signature Realty Associates) about 10 years ago
Susie... Speaking as a connoisseur of creativity I'd say you do a fine job yourself.  My mind is spinning with wonder..... and although I rarely recall dreams mine was a bit crazy last night.... I'll let you blog first!
Posted by No Longer Active (Real Estate) about 10 years ago
Well Dan....That little comment has certainly perked up my ears.

Sandra... You'll just have to wait to see Susie's Blog....  From her Hellish Hints about HEAT, RAIN and scary blogging dream I'm thinking it has something to do with a GIANT Fireman waving a hose in Florida...
