This Christmas is Number 31 for me and my wife... After all these years of shopping I think I do fine but I need to get a little tee'd off at the quality control standards of clothing manufacturers. When I was first married my wife was a perfect size 5... shopping was easy Jeans.. Size 5... Dress Size 5... Ring Size 5... Shoes Size 5... Bra... well... harnessing the twins it a little trickier but you get my point...
Over the years sizes have changed.... Although my wife remains the same physical size and weight she was 30 years ago the definition of Size 5 has been modified in the United States... Now depending on the brand she may need a size 4, 3 or 2.
The same technique is used in the supermarkets. Remember when a pound of coffee was purchased in 16 ounces cans. I recall the transition when those silly little cans showed up and then one day the standard #2 Can was gone! Do they really think it goes unnoticed?
Think about it... They reduce the size of food containers so we pay more for less and they change the sizing standards for clothing so we feel thinner... I get a bit ticked that they feel we are so easily brainwashed...
It's approaching 5:00 am on the East Coast, soon excited children will start ripping into their Christmas Prizes and wives will explain to their husband that selecting sizes is not that simple... You also need to know a little about Juniors and Misses and Petite!
Merry Christmas!!! ( Susie - Enjoy the Snow! )

Dan... Mike's comment is pretty funny. But I do know what you mean about sizes, the same goes for men also.... nothing is the same between the same sizes.... now I am tee'd off... lol
Happy Holidays to you and Sandra...
Michael.... I've been around long enough to have mastered sizing...
Jeff...Yes we do have our own set of problems... I always wore Levi jeans which were the American standard for a hundred years as I recall... Wasn't very happy when they tightened the crotch, even complained to a salesperson once. It's not like we grow balls when we hit a certain age... or do we..... LOL
Laurie & Linda.... Have a great holiday too.....
Sandra... It's just a number... and like I told Michael I've been around long enough to know how to play the game.. I could have used size 10 for the example but then you'd be complaining that I thought you were fat! BTW... The current size 4 is like the old 14 so did I really give away anything? :-)
Merry Christmas Dan & Sandra!
Since this is a Teed off Tuesday post....I have to say that I'm sure many women who are a size 10 would be insulted by that fact that you think a size 10 is considered fat, when in fact that is the average size on the chart! And how is a 4 like a 14....I'm confused? ;)
Monika... Hope you and Jay are enjoying the day. The first of the year usually brings renewed energy to the market.
Marc... I'm usually pretty good with math but converting the number to letters I came up with Double D's and it just didn't feel right... LOL
Suzanne... Let me nip that little blond moment... If you selected the link to SIZES they say a 6 onto today's standard is like a 12 of years ago. And.... I never said a 10 was fat, said Sandra would twist it to think I was calling her fat.... So... Should I read your worry as confirmation that you are size 10? - BTW... Think back to Bo Derek - 10 isn't bad.... :-)
Matthew... That could backfire.... After the initial smile because you thought she was smaller she'll get depressed because she'll feel fat.
Missy... Like I say with age it's just a number... people sweat way too much over small stuff.
janeAnne... I'm feeling a little peanut crush in my new jeans.. My waist dropped with all my running but no one ever listens to the size I request.... They always go bigger or smaller...
Gary... It;s everywhere... Even noticed the nice big candy bars I always gave out at Halloween have been downsized.
Simon... I always walk on the edge but never cross the invisible line...
Ginger... It's quite a nice day this year... sunshine and blue skies instead of howling wind and freezing temps. Merry Christmas!
Dan,
No worry about me, anyway I didn't click your links to see what you were talking about..perhaps I went way ahead of myself....or perhaps I just wanted to get you all fired up! LOL! ;)
Marc - Dan would be in big trouble if he started discussing my twins!
Missy - Thanks, actually a little smaller than a five, I have been blessed with very good genes. : ) Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Dan - Yes, you would be in trouble if you implied I was a size ten! And a old 14 is not like, nor has never been like a 4. Size is clothes have changed a little over the years, however not that drastically...And the better the maker of the clothes, the larger they seems to make their sizes.
Dan,
Never fear... except maybe getting hung up in the links! But funny, how I knew you would ASSUME that, now that kinda
pissesticks me off.....but I'll get over it! :)Sandra... Correct.... That 14 was a typo I made... Was thinking of the link that said current size are 6 sized roughly 6 sizes different from the old standard so the 4 would compare to the 10 which I don't totally agree with. As tough as it is to comprehend even I might accidentally slip up and not catch my error.
Suzanne... Good thing you caught yourself with that strike out... "P" words might get you in trouble... :-)
Cyndee... New Year's Resolutions next... I'll have to start thinking!
George... Whet is this no Santa stuff? I woke early Christmas morning and there was evidence of milk and cookies on the kitchen table and we don't know how they got there.....
I am so impressed that my Sandra is still a size five! Yay woman! I wear a 3 or a 5, but just have to guess anymore with the way sizes have lost their standards. It T's me off something awful. And if I have to wear a seven, then forget it, I won't even buy that crap!
So what did you get the twins this year Dan?
George... My stories are the truth.....Sandra didn't know how the cookies got there and I sure didn't put them out.
Jennifer... She used to be a 5... these days I've gotten away from those odd numbers and typically select a 4 or maybe a 2... As for the twins I was boringly supportive.... Just popped into Victoria's with Bennie and Grant.
Shannon... Glad you enjoyed the humor of Tee'd Off Tuesday.. You ladies worry way to much about sizes though.
Ginger... She did have those child bearing years where she ballooned up... She's lucky I know how to crack a whip and get her back into shape!.... LOL
I just bought a size 4 coat. I am not a 4, I'm an 8. OK, some brands size differently than others, but the majority of things I own are an 8 (or a 10 in some tops in order to deal with my own twins). I can only assume that this coat was mis-labeled, but I've heard that some of the higher end manufacturers actually change the labels to make us think that we are really smaller than we are. I can't speak for everyone, but I would like to believe that most of us are not that stupid! Truth is that I tried the coat on and loved it before I saw the size. Good thing, because if I saw the 4 I would not have tried it. Maybe I just need glasses!
Elizabeth... That is exactly what the marketing wizards think, little by little it goes unnoticed and we pay more.
Dawn... I realize the pricier the piece the smaller the size but cannot believe some woman actually feel proud that they can buy there way into a smaller size.
