The Running Realtor: Tis The Season.... I'm Gonna Shop...

A blend of ramblings about Real Estate & Running around New Haven County and the Connecticut Shoreline

Tis The Season.... I'm Gonna Shop...

I'm Trying.... I'm Trying....  This year I just can't seem to kick myself into the mall. Ten days til Christmas so this morning I slipped into my Holiday Undies and grabbed my stack of Christmas Cash with a mission.... Shop Til I Drop!

Well.... I'm still here....  The thought of aimlessly wandering around on a Saturday just doesn't seem to get me in the Holiday Spirit.  I am defeated before I begin.

Being in the Real Estate business we must learn to self-motivate ourselves.  Consumers hear the gloom and doom that the media sends everyday and we as agents feel the results in our wallet.  Our job goes well beyond selling homes, we need to educate people on the market. Yesterday I was talking to a guy that will be listing in the spring.  It felt good to know he was able to sift through all the negative press and understands it isn't that bad.

Yes,  volume is off...  After a few years of record breaking movement it was bound to happen.  So many people have relocated within the last 5 years that it was time to slow down. Looking around you can always pick out drastically overpriced homes that get reduced by 100's of thousands of dollars. When taking a broader look at market conditions we have not seen dramatic price drops in my territory.

Sure as the market slowed new financing products were introduced to bring in buyers that were otherwise not qualified to purchase.  These sub-prime purchasers with long track records or financial failure bought at the top typically financing every penny including their closing costs.  Yes, they let their bills slide in the past and they continue to let them slide today.  Was the increase in foreclosures really a surprise?

Well.. A little typing and my shopping motivation is re-ignited. Off to the Mall with my cell in hand. If you are in the market for a new home now is a great time to begin your search.  During the coming winter months less buyers are looking at homes and you may find a better deal instead of waiting for the prime spring market to arrive.  Give me a call or drop me an email if you need assistance Buying or Selling a home in my territory.

Dan.... love the hat. And if you need help shopping, just send me the money that is in your hands, I can handle that for you.  And if my eyes are that good, I think those are Franklins... 8 of them?  Now these I like. Much better than the Jacksons....    In any case, go get them tiger.... buy, buy, buy.

Missy.... We'll be getting that storm late tonight so Sunday will be messy here.

George...  I love the smell of new money and I can't part with these crisp hundreds.  Heck.... I still have 3 generations of 50's in my wallet that I'll never spend....   LOL

Linda... Wish I had some decent ideas this year, that is part of my problem getting motivated.  Maybe those Christmas Undies will appear.... Members Only... LOL

Jeff...  Your eyes are still pretty good.... Requested 10 Ben's in honor of the number of days left until Christmas... Hope I won't need to request

Well, you've inspired me to finally begin my Christmas shopping. I have NO desire this year to fight the crowds and buy for the sake of buying. But, knowing I won't be suffering alone makes me feel much better :-)

We love this job, right? So we trudge forth.... nice post Dano.

Dan, I started shopping with some friends a while ago. My list is half way done, but I can't seem to find the motivation to go back shopping and finish the darn thing. While you are out there at the mall if you see anything on my Christmas list, please pick it up and I'll pay you latter. :0) I'll send you my list telepathically. Here it comes. Are you getting it?

Dan--It's crazy out there...we were at the stores while a kid was in music lessons and the stores were packed!!

Love how you entertwined not waiting in the real estate market to your not waiting to shop for Christmas. There are bargains in the stores if you know how and where to look...just like bargains in the real estate market if you have a professional Realtor to assist you. Hmmm...maybe you need a professional shopper to help you spend your money?!!

Are those Goofy ears? Happy shopping!

So the questions are - Did Dan really make it to the mall?  Did Dan buy anything that will be given as a gift?  Is Dan incognito now (with his Holiday undies - I don't know and he's wearing them 10 days prior to Christmas)?  Questions abound, but we all agree that we like your hat!

Jeff... I was wrong.... Your eyes are EXCELLENT!  I zoomed up and see that a few were hidden.

Jennifer... Hope you had a better day then I managed.

Sandra... Right.... Like I haven't heard you bitch about cash and gift cards long enough as I have to spend more than the value of gifts to ship junk across the country.

Linda... If you haven't guess from my response above let me know and I'll tell you what that idea is full of.

George... From what I recall coke is strong enough when you're driving......

Mana...  My mood wasn't tuned in to receive you,  send me an email and I'll see what I can do!

Teri... This time of year the malls are crowded and selection is limited... Just like the house hunting in the middle of spring.  And Yes those are goofy ears.... As I told you we already have way too much junk.... Did I mention I'm not a fan of the over-commercialization of Christmas?

Marc.... I made it to the mall... Was ready to call it a freakin' day after searching for a parking space and a guy pulled out of the last spot before I got to the road.... Wandered, spent a few bucks and came home to go running...  Off with the undies until another day!

Dan--Just one more question...Did you where the Goofy ears to the mall?
Posted by Teri Eckholm, REALTOR Serving Mpls/St Paul North & East Metro (Boardman Realty) over 10 years ago
Teri.... You don't already know my conservative nature?   No... Took off the hat, the tie and the red shirt and strolled around like the invisible man.... Although all the young sales girls were helpful,  they just have a way of sniffing out cash!....  LOL

I couldn't bear to go near the malls this time of the year.  It's worth it for me to order online in the comfort of my p.j's, with a cup of coffee, in front of the fireplace.  What's left on your shopping list.... I can tell you where to find it online!

Dan--Whew!! Glad it was only my imagination...You skipping through the mall in a red shirt, snowman tie, Goofy santa hat and waving $100 bills! That would have been a sight! :) Changing was a much better choice! Since I am working today, my husband and boys are going shopping for me....Could they borrow the Goofy hat?

Judy... If I had the luxury of a list shopping would me nothing more than a quick mission,  I'm very efficient.  Typically I wander about to spur ideas but after 30 years it's getting tougher..... I came up with plenty of stuff, just not for my wife...

Teri... Lesson number one is never flash the cash....  I have no problem paying for quality but don't like being directed based on the bucks...  I did see a bit on the news about a secret Santa wandering strip malls passing out hundred dollar bills.

HI Dan,

I smelled some fresh 100's over here, I came running as fast as I could (I love that smell too!).  I hope by now you have finished your shopping....;)

Suzanne.... The weather is just lovely... Everything is a nice footprint free white with a fine mist coming down... How is it out your way? Makes me feel festive so I'm heading out to stroll around another mall... Not like I can go running in this mess... LOL

Mana... That's a tall order but the challenge of making miracles happen is always fun!

Ginger... Thanks for noticing!!!   Never was very good at posing for a camera and since it was set-up on a tripod I had to press the button and jump into place before the flash.....   As far as spending I've wandered around two major indoor malls and several stand-alone stores but not finding much of interest.
