The 14th Annual United Technologes Greater Hartford Marathon, Half Marathon and 5k race has etched it's place in history. Arriving at Bushnell Park around 7:00 am the sun was just starting to rise and take the chill off the crisp October morning. With temps in the 40's it felt exceptionally cool after our much warmer than usual fall but it was a welcome treat compared to having rain.
*** The Full 26.2 Mile Marathon had 1571 Runners crossing the line.
*** Largest attenance was the 13.1 mile Half Marathon with 2471 Runners.
*** In the 5k ( 3.1 Miles ) run there were 705 Runners finishing.
Overall Hartford is a great event. The city was shutting down many roads so we were told to arrive by 7:15. I was a little ahead of schedule and traffic was very light parking was only $5 at the corner of the park.
The race moved fast through the city streets and even up onto the interstate. It isn't very often you see the highway closed for runners but it made for a peaceful outing without the noise of traffic or stink of diesel fumes filling the air.
Finish Line photos will be available for ordering at Island Photography.
For those planning ahead you can mark your calender for October 11, 2008 for the 15th run of the Hartford Marathon.
My achievement goal for my first year of running was the 5 Mile Turkey Trot that I ran last year in the wind & rain. My second year got me to the Half Marathon level with a pace of just under 10 minutes per mile. Not sure if I should continue to pursue longer distances or work on improving speed. After some research I will decided whether to tackle the full marathon next year or challenge myself to complete the half with nine minute miles.
In the meantime I'll be running around the Connecticut Shoreline. If you need assistance Buying or Selling a home in my territory give me a call or drop me an email. Dan Cummings, The Running Realtor.

Hi Dan,
Just think you have a whole year to train...9 min miles sounds like a good challenge!
Dan, it might take the full marathon to wear off that veal that you ate today ........... LOL
But then again I should not talk because I was just as bad :)
Suzanne, That was the direction I thought I should concentrate on, would be nice to break the 2 hour mark in the half before thinking of a full marathon. And know it wasn't Twin Oaks... I've hinted a few times but you've never invited me... :-)
George, I'm still feeling shorted because I didn't get my two side dishes....
Thesa, I had a comment in another post the other day about biking.... Saw it was from Oregon and thought of you... Volunteered us for a mixed triathlon, I'll run, You'll bike & Sandi can swim... Ready?
Susie, Hop a flight.... Next run is the Halloween 5k in New Haven.
Hi Dan,
I know we will get together one of these days! :)
Suzanne... How is your running doing? I'd prefer we do a 5k instead of kick-boxing.... LOL
Jason... I used to think is was foolish but it's quite relaxing.... Notice I'm never a grump.
Mana... Planning to try improving my speed... I'm not getting any younger you know....
Teri... Two years ago I thought the same, a 5k was the goal and a 5 miler was huge.
George... They do it for my own good... Think of all the calories I didn't eat!
