The Running Realtor: Pit Stop in Portsmouth

A blend of ramblings about Real Estate & Running around New Haven County and the Connecticut Shoreline

Pit Stop in Portsmouth

Labor Day Weekend traditionally marks the end of summer and due to conflicting schedules all season we never had and opportunity to connect with Ann Cummings until this trip.  In all my years traveling between Connecticut and Maine I have never taken the time to actually visit Portsmouth.  For a city with a population of just over 20k it is surprisingly active.  The Market Square area is a great poke around place with plenty of shopping.

Ann's husband, Bear scurried us off to a back alley that most tourist will never find.  Sitting dockside we had a view of the port and off in the distance the bridge connecting New Hampshire and Maine.

We enjoyed some food and drink while discussing the area and of course ActiveRain.  Flat Matt even made an appearance since he's been keeping a low profile for the summer months.  Next Ann gave us a quick Relo Tour of the town before darkness set in.

Our normal trip of under 5 hours turned into a 10 hour adventure. After leaving Portsmouth we traveled north to Freeport for a stop at the 24-hour L.L. Bean Store then continued on to our Cabin on Ann Street.

For more information about Real Estate along the Connecticut Shoreline contact Dan or Sandra Cummings.  When you are looking a little further north in Portsmouth N.H. or Southern Maine contact Ann.

Dan, looks like you guys had a great time getting together from the pictures.  Since you are up in Maine, I guess you will not be running in the road race in New Haven tomorrow.

What a fun opportunity it is to be able to connect in person people that are "old friends" on Active Rain!  It's awesome that you took the time :)

George... I'm up and running.... Came back yesterday to beat the traffic and run the race but my day is starting off with obstacles... Damn coffee pot ain't working!!!!

Suzanne... You'd enjoy poking around the shops and there are a few hills to work your buns as you walk.

Sandi... Meeting everyone nationwide certainly adds a fun twist when you can find someone you know in many places.

Ginger... I didn't realize you were from New England..... Where about's...?

Thesa...  Awe, Yup....  Not sure if it has the authentic Maine tone in text..... :-)

Brad... With a few friends, a few beers and a sea breeze it is quite nice.

Hey Dan - your pics came out better than mine!  We loved meeting you both and enjoyed being able to just sit back, have a few beers and enjoy getting to know you in person.  I loved showing you this great area - next time you can pull off and see a little more than just what's visible from the bridges as you cross over into Maine.  You're right about Market Square being a fun place to hang around in - little cafes, shops, galleries, restaurants, and lots of benches and sitting areas from which to just enjoy the scenery.

I wonder what Bear will think being called "my husband"!!  He gets called "Mr. Cummings" sometimes, too.  We aren't married, as yet, but that's okay, plenty of people just assume we are as we've been together many years at this point.  No need to change what you wrote - made me chuckle when I read it!  He'll get a chuckle out of it, too.  We have people who've known us for years think we're married, too.  They introduce us that way at times.  One of those little things that just make you smile....  ;-)

I'm jealous that you went to Freeport!!  I LOVE going up there - not only is it a pretty area, but all that shopping!!!!!  LL Bean!!

Fun times, and many thanks for us being able to get together this time around!!

Dan - what a view!!  leave it to locals to find THE SPOTS!  Ann should consider laminating that pool flat Matt that keeps hanging around (not like the Florida one that had to wrestle alligators with TLW and go scuba diving with Nick. M) - Thanks for sharing your get together!

Dan,

I'm sorry that Jay and I didn't get there to see you and Sandra. Flat Matt is a riot and Ann and her Bear are awesome people. Freeport is a regular stop of ours as well, as we often explore the coast of Maine.

Ann... I was wrestling with what to call Bear but didn't want him omitted.  Figured husband was the safest,  somehow BoyToy just doesn't sound right at our age... LOL

Teri... Those were a few shots shortly after we arrived.  The days are getting shorter so dusk came fast.

Ines... Laminating may help but Flat Matt is still traveling with his suitcase of extra eyes and staying in pretty good shape.

Monika... We'll all have to get together at some point.. We travel up quite often in the summer and should make one or two more trips this year before closing up for the winter.

Dan - I am laughing right out loud at 'Boy Toy'!!!!!  I just read what you wrote to Bear, and he laughed right out loud, too!!!  You are too funny!  ;-)

Flat Matt does indeed have his little suitcase of extra eyes, and he's got his running shoes on, too.  You just never know where he may end up next.....  or he may just decide to camp out with us for awhile longer.....  We've got our NH state convention coming up, perhaps he'll trek up there and hang out and the 'stateys' and drink till all hours of the night.  If he does that, Ms Green-o-Lina may regret giving him to me...   ;-)  For now, he's safely ensconced here at home with us - me and my 'boy toy'.

Ann... Thought that might be good for a chuckle....

Ginger...Don't think I've ever had a fried clam sandwich,  usually go for the combo dinner so I get the clams, shrimp, scallops and at times fish.

Brad...Friends and beer always works....
