Quite often I wake up at night and aimlessly flip through TV channels in search of interesting content. Last night was one of those occasions where I stumbled into a Financial Guru's Infomercial. This one is coming to the area and he was touting the millions he made in just 18 months. If one program isn't right just flip the channel because someone else may have years of experience teaching millions of people the secrets of success.
- You do not need money, there are government grants to help you.
- You do not need credit, sellers will be happy to help with financing.
- You do not need brains, the systematic program gives you every step.
- You do not need to investigate, we provide plenty of testimonials.
Being in the Real Estate Business I'll stop and watch the show wondering if people fall into a hypnotic state and purchase the program. Is it really that easy? Could I be the only Non-Believer?
- The only thing you need to do is make a phone call to become wealthy.
- Proven system to make thousands of dollars on your first transaction.
- Better than nothing down - you can walk away from the closing with cash.
- Increase your net worth, develop an income stream and retire early.
In all my years as a Real Estate Agent I cannot recall ever running into a real live success story from one of these programs. At open houses I meet all kinds of people but no one has ever said Carleton Sheets or Russ Whitney showed me the way. Certainly millions can be made selling a dream, wonder how many are living the dream.
I am curious, Anyone have a story of failure or success from these type of programs?

You are too funny! Have you seen The Magic Bullet? I sooo want that....:) I have yet to see anyone get rich like the infomercial but let me know if you hear of anybody. :)
The only ones getting rich are the ones holding their seminars and selling their programs.

I have not had anyone tell me they have gotten rich from any TV add.
I think the ones that are going to get wealthy are the ones being called.
Suzanne... Is that the expensive blender that melts the pounds away? I think the real theory is that people lose weight after buying it because there is no money left for food...
Sandra & Dale... Maybe we don't see the successful people because they are spending all their time in some exotic resort while the money flows in.

I do know a former Realtor friend...I think his license is inactive now.... He was in construction and got into real estate as a pre-retirement income. Shortly after he began in real estate, he started attending these flipping seminars around the country. I don't think that he ever made a dime. The company who was assisting him to "become a millionaire" was getting a lot of money from all of the seminars and tapes they sold him.
I don't think the advice was very good either...The last phone call we had, he wanted me to "feed" him listings prior to putting them in the MLS. I told him that was unethical and he said, that if I don't, someone else will....Sounded like informercial advice to me.
Like I said that was years ago and I never once saw a home flipped by his company on the market.

Teri... I never attended one of the seminars but suspected they were feeding people a theory that sounds good but in reality rarely works. Just don't understand why after all these years they still have a big marketing budget to air the infomercials year round.
Would think word leaks out from the thousands of people that have tried their method and failed. Actually I didn't think of it earlier but there must be some Internet reviews on this stuff... I found a site with Pros and Cons of the Carlton Sheets program.

I have the magic bullet and the knives too.... my husband is a sucker at the county fair.
I have never seen or heard of anyone doing well on these programs - anxious to see if anyone has - but not holding my breath

Chris... I agree they target the people that can least afford the hefty fee and make it so easy to get trapped. The show I saw had a $10-15 dollar trial fee but I'm sure it's easy to miss so you wind up owing the entire program cost.
Ohh, I have the magic bullet and I use it. I make hummus and gaspacho in it all the time, but it SO doesn't work like it says on TV. It's much like a real estate seminar this way.
We also have some knives, a hair care product that shall remain unnamed, Pro-Active (which actually worked like a charm for my step-son), and the Bender Ball (excercise equipment--I'd take it out of the box but it looks so pretty in there!). In summary, I'm not proud of it, but I hide the credit cards from Mr. V. when I go to bed first.
